Looking for information on Sensationalism as a philosophy?
Is sensationalism a philosophy or a tool used by media mediums? Does sensationalism have anything to do with the Aesthetic movement? Is there any theorists that have specific discussions of sensationalism and our society today? or any essays of the past that could be helpful
Sensationalism is the exaggerated focus upon and magnification of ordinate issues or persons superseding other vital and urgent concerns not conducive to the serving of intents and purposes of the orchestrators and administers of the media.
An MP has an affair with a muse, so what. Yet it is of interest to a certain powerful paymaster whose interest and agenda is served in the publicizing of the tryst resulting in the ruination of the fellow in question, whilst legions of other men are acting in precisely the same manner then it is sensationalism of a common occurrence.
It holds no purpose with the public’s need to know, or enlightenment, simply the tolling of the bell for as hapless victim being led to the altar of the great ‘media’ and sacrificed for the delectation, titillation and amusement of the rabble.
There are many wars, invasions and acts of barbarism happening in the world. Where the media actively decide to focus the spotlight is stipulated by the media press corp. in cahoots with the sate towards an objective. Political and Media Science is a topic covered by Noam Chomsky and a few other philosophers I cannot quite recall.
