Gluing cabinets (reworded): How long to clamp?
I'm making my own base cabinets for the kitchen. It's been 32 years since HS woodshop class. The Elmer's Glue All says "over night" (somewhat vague). I forget how long I should leave the clamps on the corner joints. I just have a fuzzy memory of three days before doing serious work on a glued joint (elmers wood-glue.) When I move the cabinet into place there will be some torsion stress before I place the leveling shims. The corners are reinforced with corner blocks screwed to both surfaces. Solid red oak face, red oak veneer plywood sides, pine plywood back. The solid oak face was pre-stained and finished, though sanded lightly before application.
Also: Any recommendations on best glue to use in this application?
24-48 hours should be fine if the glue is drying in a climate conrolled or 60-80ºF-ish environment. If the woodwork is setting in a cold garage, or the such, I'd wait a day or two longer.
Elmers Wood Glue is fine; there are fancier wood glues though. You shouldn't have any problems if you have corner blocks installed.

Am I crazy for painting my oak kitchen cabinets?
Im remodeling my kitchen with oak cabinets. Im going with country/primitive look and I want to paint the cabinets a dark country blue, then sand them to give them a primitive/antique finish but everyone is telling me Im crazy. I thought the guy at the paint store was going to fall over. Am I really crazy for doing this to my oak cabinets? What's the big deal?
I had oak in my other house. I wanted white, but it was a big upgrade price. Since this was a new house, I never mentioned painting them...my husband would have thought I was crazy. The house we live in now had wood cabinets; they were 70's and very outdated. We painted them white and distressed them. We have new nickle finish hardware and it looks GREAT!!!!! You are not crazy. Go for it. Men love stained wood...I Hate It! I love painted wood. Just beware, it is a lot of work, but well worth it. And besides, it's you house. If people don't like them, the don't have to come over. You can also tell people when they make the house payment, they can complain....lol
We went to Lowe's paint dept. We told them what we were doing and they sold us a great primer. It is oil base, but after it dries, you can use any type of paint, oil or latex. It seals very well.

which plywood should i use for wardrobes and for my kitchen?
should i use oak plywood or should i use eucalyptus plywood for wardrobes.
has anyone heard of a company called Bhutan Wood. they make plywoods. how good are they in terms of both commercial and waterproof plywood.
IS it better to use softwood or hardwood or a mixture of the two?
I wood use a plywood with a hardwood veneer for the exterior surfaces. Oak takes on a nice finish. I haven't used Eucalypt plywoods. Commercially graded plywoods should show equivalent minimum performance. Haven't heard of "Bhutan Wood".
