Whats the point in the whisper key?
Ok im a Bassoon player and there's this little key that's called the whisper key and when i press it down it doesn't make anything sound different.

[[i also have a guy friend who plays the bassoon and his doesn't sound different when he presses it down, so i know its not the Bassoon. and if it was i would know because i have it checked one a month because its a very expensive instrument]]

The small circular thing at the top right of the tenor joint is the whisper key. The Bocal has a circle on it that has a hole in the middle of the circle that the whisper key covers up.
It helps control the octave of a note. It's not an octave key, but...
When you press down the whisper key, it helps control lower notes and keep them from accidentally going into the higher octave.
When you leave it up, it becomes easier to let the high notes out.
